
June 13, (THEWILL) – The United States has sent congratulatory message to Nigeria, following a successful inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
THEWILL reports that the 10th National Assembly was on Tuesday, inaugurated with the election of presiding officers of the two Chambers – the Senate and the House of Representatives.
While Senator Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressive Congress (APC) emerged the 10th President of the Senate after defeating Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the immediate past Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Jibrin Barau (APC Kano North), emerged as the Deputy Senate President unopposed.
Also at the Green Chamber, Tajudeen Abbas of the APC was elected Speaker after he secured 353 of 359 total votes cast for the Speakership election. Honorable Benjamin Kalu ( APC – Abia), was also elected unopposed to become Deputy Speaker.
