October 08, (THEWILL) — Nigeria’s creative industry will take the spotlight in October, as professionals from across the country converge in Akwa Ibom for the 2025 Visual Conference and Photography Awards, an event aimed at promoting excellence and collaboration among visual creatives.
The initiative, spearheaded by Idara Adiakpan, the personal photographer to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, aims to advance talent development, strengthen industry partnerships, and enhance the economic value of the visual arts sector.
Speaking during a press briefing in Uyo, Adiakpan said the two-day conference, slated for October 9–10, 2025, will feature an art exhibition with 31 exhibitors representing all local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, panel discussions, mentorship sessions, and an awards ceremony to honour outstanding practitioners.
“The platform is designed to contribute to human capital and economic development among creatives while strengthening the growth of the photography industry and the country at large”, she stated.
Adiakpan described the initiative as a personal contribution to the growth of the industry that shaped her career, noting that it also aligns with efforts to professionalise the creative sector in Nigeria.
“Our goal is to create an initiative that acknowledges impact makers who are redefining creativity in their fields”, she said.
The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, will attend as Special Guest of Honour, while Governor Umo Eno will serve as Host Governor.
Other high-profile guests expected include Kelechi Amadi-Obi, Adeagbo Ayomide, Aisha Augie-Kuta, Emmanuel Oyekele, Eduwem Ukpong, and Henry Oji (BigH).
Adiakpan, who recently turned 30, said unveiling the event at this time represents her commitment to mentoring young creatives and promoting professional collaboration in the visual arts space.
“This is more than a celebration; it’s a call to action for all creatives to rise, collaborate, and elevate the standards of visual art in Nigeria”, she said.
The Visual Conference and Photography Awards 2025 is expected to attract industry leaders, investors, and art enthusiasts seeking to explore new opportunities within Nigeria’s growing creative economy.
