May 07, (THEWILL) – Nigerian social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His release was confirmed on Wednesday evening by the Convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement and Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, via a brief update on his official Facebook page which read: “VDM Released!”
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, also confirmed the development to journalists, noting that he personally undertook to produce his client whenever required by the Commission or the court.
“VDM has been released. I undertook to produce him whenever he is required by the Commission or the court. I must say that the EFCC, particularly the Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, was cooperative throughout this process, and for that, I am grateful,” Adeyanju stated.
THEWILL reports that VDM had been in EFCC custody since his arrest in Abuja last Friday, a development that drew public attention and sparked calls for his unconditional release from several prominent Nigerians.
The EFCC had, however, clarified on Tuesday that his arrest followed a series of petitions filed against him, stating that the activist failed to honour several invitations sent to him prior to his arrest.
