April 14, (THEWILL) – Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Makurdi, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, has described the death of Professor Tyotom Keghku of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of the institution as painful, and one too many.
Professor Iorapuu, who spoke at the burial site of the late Keghku at Igbor, Yonov, Gwer East local Government area of Benue State on Monday, described the deceased as an accomplished academic who combined industry with great commitment to his professional responsibilities.
“We note the fact that our departed colleague lived a remarkable life. By dint of hard work, he established a thriving career in Public Relations sequence of Mass Communication and through his exceptional exertions and personal integrity, he rightfully earned for himself an elevation to the Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations”, Iorapuu stated.
The Vice Chancellor, who empathised with the family over Keghku’s death, however, urged them to draw encouragement from the fact that their son left behind a legacy of dedicated public service, as well as remarkable contributions to research, teaching and learning.
The paramount ruler of Gwer East, the Ter Gwer, HRH, Chief Dominic Akpe, said late Keghku was one of their sons who always preached peace and development to his community while alive.
On his part, the chairman of Gwer East local Government council, Mr Timothy Adi, said governor Hyacinth Alia was trying his best to address some security breaches in the state, especially in Gwer East and sued for patience and cooperation.
He said the death of Professor Tyotom Keghku has created a great vacuum, not only in Gwer East but Benue and the country at large, given the deceased’s wealth of experience in public and private life.
Keghku, who until his death, was Head of Department of Public Relations in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, joined the services of Benue State University in 2003, and his promotion to the rank of Professor of Public Relations was granted in October 2024.
Professor Keghku left behind a wife and three children and was buried at Igbor, Yonov, Gwer East local Government area of Benue State, according to Catholic christian rites.
