January 07, (THEWILL) – The Director General of Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has lauded the resumption of near 80% production capacity at the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company, describing it as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s industrial revamp and a boon for Delta State’s economy.
Speaking during a television program on Sunday, Oghenesivbe emphasized that the refinery’s production of diesel, kerosene, and petrol will stimulate wealth creation and generate thousands of jobs for skilled and unskilled workers in the state and beyond.
He attributed the achievement to the visionary leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose commitment to infrastructure development and socioeconomic remodeling, coupled with strategic partnerships with the federal government, has yielded remarkable results for Delta State.
Oghenesivbe dismissed rumors of Governor Oborevwori’s alleged defection plans as “laughable and mischievous,” attributing them to “professional rumour mongers.”
He assured Deltans that the governor remains focused on fostering sustainable growth across all sectors through strategic collaboration with the federal government and other stakeholders.
“Governor Oborevwori is working tirelessly to advance Delta State through his MORE Agenda, which continues to attract local and foreign investments,” he said.
The Bureau Chief criticised calls for the Warri Refinery management to pay stipends to unemployed youths and graduates, labeling such demands as “unprogressive antics.”
He stated that no refinery globally pays monthly stipends, but rather provides employment through job opportunities across various levels.
“There is no place in the world where refineries pay unemployed young graduates and secondary school leavers monthly stipends. The focus should be on job creation, not unrealistic demands that could deter investors,” Oghenesivbe noted.
Oghenesivbe praised the collaboration between Governor Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the governor’s efforts to align Delta State’s development goals with federal economic policies.
“Good governance thrives on collaboration, not partisan divisions. Governor Oborevwori’s partnership with the federal government is a testament to his commitment to the progress of Delta State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
He urged Delta youths to support the governor’s efforts, emphasizing that the commencement of operations at the Warri Refinery marks a turning point for the state’s economic prosperity.
“Warri Refinery’s operations will create jobs and wealth for our people. Governor Oborevwori’s vision and dedication are transforming Delta State, and we must rally behind his leadership to sustain this progress,” Oghenesivbe said.
The DG assured residents that the governor will continue to pursue initiatives that drive industrial revival, attract investments, and deliver impactful governance for the state.
