December 30, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited for successfully restarting operations at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in his administration’s drive for energy security.

Tinubu expressed delight at the reopening of the refinery, which has returned to operations at 60% capacity, translating to 125,000 barrels per day.
The announcement comes weeks after the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery resumed operations in November.
The President commended NNPCL’s leadership under Mele Kyari for spearheading efforts to restore the functionality of Nigeria’s state-owned refineries, stating that this development reinforces his administration’s commitment to bolstering local refining capacity.
“With the return of operations at Warri Refinery, we are steadily advancing toward achieving our vision of energy efficiency and security,” Tinubu said.
He also urged the NNPCL to fast-track ongoing repair works at the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery, which has a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, to further consolidate Nigeria’s standing as a key energy player on the global stage.
The WRPC is set to prioritse the production and storage of critical petroleum products, including Straight Run Kerosene, Automotive Gas Oil, and heavy and light Naphtha, aimed at meeting domestic and industrial demands.
While the contracts for the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries were awarded under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu highlighted his administration’s efforts in ensuring the continuity and success of the projects.
“The restoration of the Warri Refinery underscores our unwavering resolve to restore Nigeria’s pride as a leading oil-producing nation,” he said.
