March 21, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has declared that all Nigerians share responsibility for the nation’s security, urging citizens to take active roles in safeguarding peace and stability across the country.
Speaking to journalists after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos, the President stressed that national stability cannot be left in the hands of government alone, calling for vigilance and cooperation among the populace.
“The stability, peace, and security of the nation are not just one man’s responsibility. We are all involved. Report suspicious movements across the length and breadth of the country. These are our responsibilities too,” he said.
Tinubu also called on Nigerians to sustain the values of patience, tolerance, and compassion imbibed during the holy months of Ramadan and Lent, noting that such virtues remain essential for peaceful coexistence and nation-building.
“I pray for peace in the country,” the President added, emphasizing that unity and harmony must remain central to Nigeria’s progress.
He further urged citizens to extend acts of charity and kindness beyond the fasting period, encouraging support for the vulnerable and adherence to moral and spiritual teachings.
“We should assist the needy and help the vulnerable. That is the teaching. May God accept our sacrifices,” he stated.
The President noted that the core of all religions is rooted in the worship of one God and the promotion of good character, urging Nigerians to reflect these values in their daily lives through love for neighbour and commitment to national unity.
Reflecting on his recent visit to the United Kingdom with the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, described the engagement as a recognition of Nigeria’s growing global relevance, following his reception by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
“Our visit was a very big opportunity for us to showcase the diversity in our society and demonstrate tolerance among all faiths. Though we worship the same God, our styles may differ, but we serve God Almighty,” he said.
Also speaking, the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, assured that the state government and its people would continue to pray for peace and the well-being of Nigerians, while commending the President’s support for the state.
In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, urged Muslims to uphold the virtues of piety, discipline, and compassion beyond Ramadan, stressing the need for calmness and unity in a world facing growing tensions.
The President was accompanied to the Eid ground by senior government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; and former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, among others.
