April 05, (THEWILL) — The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Nigerians to rise above fear, division, and despair, declaring that the nation has the resilience to overcome its current socio-economic and security challenges.
“We can rise, rebuild, and move forward together”, said CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in an Easter message issued on Sunday in Abuja, urging citizens to hold on to hope and unity as the country navigates difficult times.
Archbishop Okoh reminded Nigerians that the resurrection of Jesus Christ serves as a timeless symbol that “rising again is always possible” regardless of past hardships. He highlighted that the essence of Easter lies in the return of hope when it seems lost, and the emergence of new beginnings after periods of difficulty.
“Across the country, people are weary. Families are anxious. Many do not feel safe; others are struggling just to get by. For some, hope has grown faint. But Easter tells us this is not the end. We do not have to remain where we are. We can rise, rebuild, and move forward, together”, Okoh said, urging citizens to hold fast to hope despite prevailing challenges.
In his message, the CAN President also addressed those in positions of leadership, challenging them to translate their words into visible actions.
“People must feel leadership, not just hear it. They are looking for action, for empathy, for visible efforts to improve their lives. That is how a nation begins to rise”, he said, stressing that the current climate serves as a “test of purpose” for the nation’s helmsmen.
The cleric further called on the Church and religious organisations to continue providing support for the vulnerable, offering moral guidance and clear direction during uncertain times. He emphasised the power of solidarity, urging Nigerians not to succumb to fear or division.
“Hard times can divide, but they can also unite. If we choose unity over suspicion and look out for one another, change becomes not just possible, but certain. Easter is more than a celebration; it is a decision to rise above our differences, to stand together, and to confront what holds us back”, he said.
Okoh extended his warm wishes to all Nigerians, praying for the continued progress and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
