February 13, (THEWILL) – The deputy governorship candidate for Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, Aare Gbenga Oluyemi, has said his party would revolutionise the agricultural system in the state to a modern one, to boost food security and create employment opportunities for job seekers.

Oluyemi, who disclosed this during his campaign rally to ward 1 and Ward 6 at Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of the State, said that the agricultural revolution would change the practice of farming in the state to attract more foreign investors in the agric business.

He divulged that the Governorship candidate of the party, Tony Ojeshina, would engage interested farmers in palm oil, cocoa, timber, tobacco and cassava production in the agricultural revolution system to ensure food sufficiency in the state if elected.

The deputy governorship candidate explained that youth would be given priority in the agricultural revolution farming and the old as they would be supported with modern agricultural storage, equipment and facilities and partnership arrangements to make the dream a reality.

He stressed that with this, farmers in the state would become millionaires while urging the people of the state to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) ready and vote SDP to make the agricultural revolution and other plans in their manifestos come true.

Oluyemi said that he chose to kick off his campaign rally at Igbaire, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo, because it is his ancestral home, calling on the people of the area and the state to vote for Ojeshina and him and other candidates of the party in the forthcoming election.

He said, “Our plan is a revolutionary plan and agriculture is part of it and we are going to handle agriculture in a revolutionary way. How do we do that, we are going to create infrastructural facilities, we are going to support people who are interested in farming, we are going to ensure that they have adequate storage we are going to support them with implements we are good to use partnership arrangement to ensure that they are able to deliver their produce.

“We will also be able to plant throughout 12 months. Like I told them where I work before where they grew tobacco I was part of the project and in that location farmers are millionaires. If we achieve that as a private sector, I don’t see why we can’t achieve that as a government.”

“Definitely Farmers should be millionaires, because in the developing world if you call yourself a farmer you are a millionaire and it is happening in this part of Southwest. They are farmers planting tobacco and why can’t we do that, especially in this part of Ogun State where we have enough land to cultivate and encourage our youth to go farming?

“If you look at Ogun State for instance, we have timber, We have cocoa, we have cassava, we have palm oil, we will revolutionise that area. We will see what we can do better in this modern agricultural business system. We will also employ other agricultural products they have not even considered.”

The Chairman of Ward 6, at Onola-Igbaire, Haruna Street, Ijebu-Igbo, Adekola Oluyemi, assured the Deputy Governorship Candidate of massive support and votes from the people of his wards expressing confidence that SDP would not fail them in the area if voted for.

“He (Oluyemi) said he would help the youth, especially the job seekers in agric business and the aged. We will support him and give SDP our votes and I pray he and his principal emerge as governor and deputy governor”, he stressed.

The deputy governorship candidate later moved to ward 1, Adesoye Road, Atikori, Ijebu-Igbo, where he met with people of the area to vote for Ojeshina as governor and other party’s candidate in the general election, promising not to disappoint them if elected.

Responding, the Chairman of Ward 1, Alhaji Ade Lawrence, asked the members of the wards to tell the families and relatives in Ijebu-Igbo to vote for Ojeshina and Oluyemi as the governor and deputy governorship candidate of SDP in the forthcoming election.

”He( Oluyemi) is our son and we need your votes. If he wins he will not forget you. Please take your PVCs and vote for SDP”, he added.
