May 17, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insurgency and insecurity across the country, declaring that his government will not tolerate any form of evil disguised as insurgency or criminality.
The President made this known on Friday in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, led by its General Secretary, Archbishop Chivir Chianson, at the State House.
Speaking on behalf of the President, his Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, said security agencies have received renewed directives to restore peace and security in all parts of the country.
Bwala said, “This administration is determined to end insecurity and will not condone any form of evil.
“Crime is crime — it bears no religious or ethnic identity. The security forces have been given fresh marching orders to deal decisively with all forms of criminality. We are also working with state governors to address the root causes of insecurity.”
He stressed the importance of building a national consensus where Nigerians collectively reject crime and evil, without political, religious, or ethnic bias.
On the economy, Bwala stated that the economic reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration are beginning to yield positive results.
He cited increased revenue allocations to states and a reduction in industrial strike actions as evidence of progress.
He called on religious leaders to continue supporting government efforts to stabilise the economy and improve citizens’ welfare.
Earlier in his remarks, Archbishop Chianson said the delegation was at the State House to express concerns over the welfare of their members, particularly those living in rural areas affected by insecurity.
He, however, commended President Tinubu for implementing reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
He specifically praised the recent approval for the recruitment and deployment of forest guards to secure the country’s forest reserves, describing the move as a bold step towards curbing criminal activities in remote areas.
Chianson also lauded the fairness and inclusiveness of the President’s appointments, noting that they have not been influenced by religious bias.
He stated, “The Church in Nigeria is impressed with the President’s appointments so far.
“The selection of Senator George Akume, a Christian, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation is a clear sign of inclusivity and positive change. We believe in the Renewed Hope agenda and will continue to support this administration.”
The cleric further revealed that the group has 906 members across the country and informed the President of its forthcoming 2025 Synod, which will focus on praying for national peace and good governance, as well as the empowerment and training of its members.
Other members of the delegation at the meeting included Archbishop James Maljit (Deputy National President, North), Archbishop Joseph Jatau Yari (National Vice-President, North-West), Archbishop Alexander Nyoonkyeh (Overseer, Benue Province), and Bishop David Gyang (Overseer, Plateau Province), among others.
