November 17, (THEWILL) — The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Monday, as the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, summoned an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BoT).
The move comes amid heightened tensions over the expulsion of key party figures, including Wike.
THEWILL reports that the PDP had, on Saturday, expelled the former Rivers State Governor, the suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Bature, Mao Ohuabunwa, factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, George Turner, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, and Dan Orbih, over alleged anti-party activities.
In a special announcement signed on Monday by Anyanwu, members of the party’s factional NEC and BoT were directed to convene on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the NEC Hall of the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
According to the notice, the BoT meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the NEC session at 2:00 p.m.
Though the circular did not explicitly state the agenda, THEWILL gathered that the emergency meetings are expected to address the fallout from recent expulsion directives, a move that has intensified the confrontation between rival blocs.
The expulsions—challenged as illegitimate by the opposing camp—have further widened the divisions that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections.
Sources within the Wike-aligned faction say the objective of Tuesday’s sessions is to “regularise disciplinary actions” and solidify decisions taken in recent weeks, particularly those relating to party leadership structure, membership status, and loyalty realignments.
