February 02, (THEWILL) — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has scheduled its national convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja.
In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja, the faction welcomed the recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan.
THEWILL reports that the Court, last Friday voided the party’s November 15, 2025 National Convention and sacked the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). In the judgement delivered by Justice Uche Agomoh, the court barred Turaki and other officials elected at the convention from parading themselves as members of the party’s NWC, declaring the entire convention process illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void.
The court specifically recognised and validated the Caretaker Committee led by Alhaji Abdulrahman, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as the only lawful national executive body authorised to administer the affairs of the PDP and ordered that the affairs of the main opposition party be reverted to a Caretaker Committee pending the conduct of a fresh National Convention that must fully comply with the law.
Consequently, the faction, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Abdulrahman Muhammed, and Secretary, Samuel N. Anyanwu, mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
The statement further disclosed that the NEC extended the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee and other affected state and zonal caretaker committees until the conduct of the National, State, and Zonal Congresses.
Confirming the schedule for Party congresses nationwide, with ward and local government congresses set for February and state congresses slated for March, the faction urged all party members to remain united, disciplined, and loyal, prioritising its collective interest over individual considerations.
