January 13, (THEWILL) – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a woman, Fatimo Odeale, for allegedly inflicting deep cuts on the hands of a 10-year-old pupil with a razor blade.
The pupil, identified as Olasunkanmi Oluwadamilara, is a student of Dinamis Private School in Araromi, Obada-Oko, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a report made by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada-Oko chapter.
Led by its coordinator, Olagbegi Moses, the delegation presented the injured child at the police station.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the suspect, who is also the boy’s guardian, admitted to the act.
She reportedly used the razor blade to punish the child for allegedly stealing ₦600 to buy ice cream for his friends.
Odutola disclosed that the police received the complaint on January 13, 2025, at around 11:00 am.
She narrated the series of events leading to the arrest
The statement read, “ On January 13, 2025, at about 11:00 am, a delegation from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada-Oko, led by their coordinator, Olagbegi Moses, came to the station with 10-year-old Olasunkanmi Oluwadamilara, a pupil of Dinamis Private School in the Araromi area of Obada-Oko, who had severe cuts on his hands.
“When questioned, the pupil revealed that his guardian, Odeale Fatimo, inflicted the injuries. Upon her arrest, she admitted to using a razor blade as punishment for the alleged theft of ₦600, which the boy reportedly used to buy ice cream for his friends.”
The Police PRO assured that investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served.
“The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided,” she added.
This incident highlights the growing concern about child abuse and the need for more stringent measures to protect vulnerable children.
