May 01, (THEWILL) – Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday lauded the resilience and dedication of the state’s workforce, calling for stronger protection of workers’ rights and improved working conditions across all sectors.
In a solidarity message to mark the 2025 Workers’ Day, Fubara described workers as the engine room of the state’s development and a beacon of hope amid ongoing political uncertainty.
He noted that this year’s theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” highlights the urgency of safeguarding workers amid rising environmental threats and socio-political instability.
“The theme underscores the importance of prioritising occupational safety and well-being as core elements of sustainable development,” Fubara said.
He also commended the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for its ongoing labour reforms and climate-conscious policies aimed at building a healthier and safer work environment nationwide.
The embattled governor urged both public and private sector employers to uphold labour laws and respect the dignity of workers, insisting that improved working conditions are not only a legal obligation but a moral imperative.
Fubara also prayed for divine wisdom and guidance for leaders at all levels, reaffirming his commitment to fostering a work environment grounded in dignity, fairness, and opportunity.
