October 05, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has pledged stronger collaboration with the education sector to promote continuous learning, professional mentorship, and human capital development.
The pledge was contained in a statement issued by the State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, to mark the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebrated globally on October 5.
Comrade John said the union remains committed to bridging the gap between academia and the newsroom through sustained partnerships, training initiatives, and knowledge exchange that will enhance both professions.
He noted that this year’s theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession”, resonates deeply with journalism’s core values of mentorship, shared learning, and collective pursuit of excellence.
According to him, teaching and journalism share a common mission: to enlighten minds, inspire growth, and strengthen the foundations of democracy and civic engagement.
The NUJ also used the occasion to celebrate teachers within the journalism profession, including university lecturers, newsroom mentors, and practitioners whose writings and broadcasts continue to educate and shape society.
“The NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, celebrates all teachers for their immeasurable contributions to human and societal development. Your impact is eternal, and your legacy profound”, the statement read.
The Union extended appreciation to all teachers across Akwa Ibom State and beyond for their resilience, commitment, and sacrifice in nurturing generations of leaders and innovators.
It further reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting capacity building and mentorship programmes that align with the evolving demands of education and media practice.
“On behalf of the State Executive Council and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, we celebrate every teacher within and outside our Union for adding value to humanity and being the torchbearers of knowledge”, the statement concluded.
