October 07, (THEWILL) — The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has formally handed over the leadership of the commission to Mrs. May Agbamuche, who assumes office as Acting Chairman.
The handover ceremony took place during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Yakubu, in his remarks, urged national commissioners and directors to extend their full cooperation and support to Agbamuche as she oversees the commission’s affairs pending the appointment of a substantive chairman.
Mrs. Agbamuche, the longest-serving National Commissioner at INEC, was selected in line with the commission’s internal succession protocol, which allows the most senior commissioner to act in the absence of a substantive head.
Details on the process and timeline for appointing a new INEC chairman are yet to be made public.
