October 10, (THEWILL) – The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has challenged a former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, to battlefield, saying he lacks the capacity to bring down a military helicopter.
THEWILL reports that Dokubo alleged that a surveillance helicopter belonging to the military, flew over his residence last Saturday during the Local Government election in Rivers State.
“I have the capacity to contain them. I didn’t go and look for the helicopter to shoot them down. I will shoot down the helicopter…I will shoot down the helicopter”, he said in a viral video on X.
Responding to the threat on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, challenged the ex-militant leader to enter “the battlefield”, where possible de-mystification will happen.
“About comment by some individuals that they can shoot military helicopters, I see that as laughable . You know we are in a democracy and we are a professional force. We cannot based on somebody’s comment begin to do certain things and people will begin to say that the military is on undemocratic.
“The military is not the only security agencies in the country. There are other security agencies who have constitutional roles to play when it comes to such issues.
“But, I can tell you that he doesn’t not have such capability; he is just blabbing. I will allow the security forces that are responsible for handling such matters to take over. Ours is, come to the battle field, let’s see whether we won’t take you out”.
