March 18, (THEWILL) — The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has vowed a decisive crackdown on perpetrators of the recent improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Maiduguri, declaring that those behind the bombings “have their days numbered.”
Disu made the declaration on Tuesday during a visit to victims receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where he commiserated with the injured and families of those affected by the explosions.
The police chief also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the blast scene at the popular Monday Market in Maiduguri, describing the attack as a cowardly act that would not go unpunished.
“We will not relent until all those responsible are identified, tracked, and brought to justice. Their days are numbered,” the IGP said, assuring residents of the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks behind the attacks.
As part of his visit, Disu held strategic engagements at the Borno State Government House and the State Police Command Headquarters, where he reviewed existing security arrangements and directed intensified coordination among security agencies.
He disclosed that security has been significantly reinforced across Maiduguri and surrounding areas, with increased deployments, enhanced surveillance, and robust joint operations already underway to forestall further threats.
The IGP urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community support remains critical to sustaining peace in the region.
The visit comes amid renewed concerns over security in the North-East, with authorities stepping up efforts to restore public confidence and prevent a resurgence of attacks.
THEWILL earlier reported the Police Command in Borno State, confirmed that no fewer than 23 persons were killed and 108 others injured following multiple explosions that rocked Maiduguri, the state capital, on Monday evening.
