January 24, (THEWILL) – Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, labeling him an unreliable and transactional politician who undermines the very foundation that elevated his political career.
Governor Mohammed’s remarks came in response to a recent media interview granted by Wike, during which he criticized members of the opposition People’s Democratic Party.
In a statement issued on Thursday night by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Bauchi governor criticized Wike’s consistent attacks on the PDP, describing them as divisive and self-serving.
The statement read, “Wike’s media outburst is a predictable tirade marked by contradictions, grandstanding, and erratic behavior.
“It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to the PDP—the platform that propelled his political rise—has chosen to undermine it for personal gain.”
The governor accused Wike of adopting a transactional approach to politics, where personal ambition takes precedence over loyalty and collective interests.
He noted that Wike’s erratic alliances and shifting loyalties expose him as a “fair-weather friend” who thrives on drama and divisiveness.
Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasised his commitment to the party’s values, contrasting his leadership style with what he described as Wike’s “self-serving theatrics.”
“Unlike Wike, whose divisive tactics alienate even his closest allies, Sen. Bala Mohammed has demonstrated that politics should be about public service and accountability, not personal theatrics,” the statement added.
The Bauchi governor also dismissed Wike’s assertion that personal friendships determine effective governance, stating, “Governance is built on competence, vision, and the ability to deliver results, not on personal relationships.”
Mohammed highlighted his administration’s achievements in Bauchi State as evidence of his commitment to the PDP’s ideals.
He accused Wike of double standards, noting that while he continues to claim membership in the PDP, he openly aligns himself with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“Wike’s newfound support for the APC and his call for their re-election in 2027, while still claiming to be a PDP member, raises serious questions about his credibility and moral compass,” the statement said.
The Bauchi governor also dismissed Wike’s criticism of his stance on President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills as hypocritical.
He described his opposition as a principled stand aimed at promoting inclusive governance and accountability, adding that his interventions had already led to significant adjustments in the reform process.
Mohammed concluded by urging Nigerians to see through Wike’s “antics,” stating that his divisive behavior only serves to undermine Nigeria’s democracy and the progress of the PDP.
“Until Wike undergoes genuine self-reflection and aligns himself with true leadership, his friendship—or lack thereof—remains inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State and the PDP,” the statement concluded.
