December 26, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on the youths of the state to uphold peace, safety, and resourcefulness during the Yuletide season to sustain the state’s reputation as a haven of tranquility.
In his Christmas Day message, Eno urged young people to shun anti-social behaviors and actions that could disrupt public order during the festive period.
“Let us wear our unity and love as badges of honour and continue to celebrate our bonds of kinship, which is currently on full display at the Christmas Unplugged 2024 edition,” he stated.
The governor emphasised the significance of Christmas as a season of love, giving, and unity, and encouraged citizens to support the vulnerable and inspire hope among the less privileged.
“Christmas signifies the birth of the Prince of Peace, our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a season to look out for the downtrodden, just as Christ’s humble beginnings in a manger remind us that anyone’s circumstances can change for the better,” Eno said.
He expressed gratitude for the prayers and support his administration has received over the past 18 months, noting progress made across various sectors.
“As we prepare for the New Year, we will work harder to ensure food security, extend development to rural areas, expand infrastructure, and maintain the peace and tranquility that Akwa Ibom is known for,” he added.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality education for children to enable them to compete globally and encouraged citizens to harness their talents creatively in line with the “Arise Agenda.”
To bring Christmas cheer, the governor announced the payment of the 13th-month salary, popularly called “Eno-mber,” and assured workers that the verification exercise to finalize the ₦80,000 minimum wage implementation is nearing completion.
Eno also disclosed that the state government had distributed 20 bags of rice to each of the 2,272 gazetted villages in Akwa Ibom.
“This is a season of glad tidings, and we encourage other stakeholders across the 368 wards to complement government efforts in reaching every community,” he stated.
Eno commended the cultural displays at the Christmas Village, noting the thousands of visitors flocking to the event as a testament to the industrious and united spirit of Akwa Ibom people.
“As we celebrate Christmas, may the spirit of unity and oneness guide us safely into the New Year,” he concluded.
