November 10, (THEWILL) – Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has approved the rehabilitation of the Uba General Hospital and township road networks in Askira-Uba Local Government Area as part of a broad infrastructure push in the southern region of the state.
During a visit to the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali ibn Ismaila Mamza, the governor announced plans to refurbish the hospital and approved the construction of a new palace complex befitting the emir’s status.
He also greenlighted the rehabilitation of eight primary schools in Uba town, including Uba Central Primary School, Mufa A Primary School, Kuma Primary School, Masil Primary School, Uba Marghi Primary School, Low-Cost Primary School, Kwarghi Primary School, and Mufa B Primary School.
In addressing the rehabilitation projects, Zulum emphasised, “Ensure a complete overhaul, provide necessary furniture, and guarantee the deployment of adequate teachers.”
The governor’s visit focused on evaluating ongoing development projects, coordinating policy implementations, and identifying new initiatives.
His assessment tour included stops at Central Primary School, a newly constructed Islamic high school, and Uba General Hospital, where he reviewed both completed and required works.
He also visited Government Day Secondary School in Uvu, directing the construction of a deep aquifer borehole for the High Islamic College, Uba.
At Uvu village in Askira-Uba, Zulum ordered the establishment of a new secondary school and the refurbishment of the central primary school to support education in the area.
The governor concluded his visit by paying homage to the Emir of Askira, Alhaji Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Askirama II, spending the night in Askira town to demonstrate his commitment to the community.
In a further move to strengthen healthcare, Zulum directed the recruitment of four medical doctors for Uba General Hospital.
He instructed officials to collaborate with the Chief Medical Director to address staffing and evaluate the potential need for either upgrading the existing hospital or constructing a new facility.
“Uba is a city where doctors can reside comfortably. We will offer competitive compensation and ensure a steady supply of medical supplies and consumables for the hospital,” Zulum affirmed.
