BEVERLY HILLS, February 13, (THEWILL) – Rival cult groups locked in a supremacy battle on Friday night invaded Omoku, headquarters of Ogba Egbema Ndoni local government area of Rivers state, allegedly killing about sixteen persons.
The heavily armed hoodlums were said to have stormed the community by 8pm and operated unchallenged until 10pm. Their sporadic shootings caused many residents to flee indoors in great panic. Some of those who lost their lives were reportedly beheaded by the suspected cultists.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, who confirmed that six bodies have been recovered from the sad incident, said it was largely a battle for supremacy among rival cult groups in the area.
According to him, “The incident is reasonably believed to be a battle of supremacy between rival cult groups in the town. As it is now the situation is under control as more anti riot policemen were drafted to reinforce the existing security in the town. As for casualties, six dead bodies of the suspected cultists were recovered.”
