BEVERLY HILLS, June 22, (THEWILL) – Thirty-four Nigerians deported from six European countries for immigration-related offences arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday.
The affected individuals were from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Iceland and Switzerland.
The deportees, who arrived at 6.30a.m, comprised 32 males and two females, and were brought back in a chartered Airblue Panorama aircraft.
The Spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the development.
He revealed that the deportees were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) , the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Police.
“This (Thursday) morning, we received 34 Nigerians who were brought back from Europe. They comprised 32 males and two females,” he said.
“The deportees allegedly committed immigration-related offences in their host countries.
“The deportees were received by officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the police.
“Also on ground to receive them were officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“The deportees were profiled by immigration authorities and allowed to depart to their various destinations.”
THEWILL recalls that 90 Nigerians were deported from nine European countries – Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, Spain and Hungary – in April for committing similar offences.
