April 07, (THEWILL) – Wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, has expressed confidence that the newly constructed modern shopping complex at the Lafenwa Market in Abeokuta North Local Government Area will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and regional trade expansion in the state.
Speaking during the commissioning of the complex on Friday, Mrs. Abiodun commended the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, for his foresight in executing the project and for naming the facility in her honour.
She noted that the shopping complex, which is equipped with modern amenities including electricity and cold storage facilities, aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration’s agenda to modernise market infrastructure across local governments in the state as part of broader efforts to strengthen the economy.
“This project exemplifies what can be achieved when government at all levels work in synergy to deliver economic dividends to the people. The Lafenwa Market, already a bustling hub of trade, will now become even more attractive to traders and buyers from within and outside the state,” she said.
The First Lady stated that the provision of storage facilities in the complex will help preserve perishable goods, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve food security in the local government and across Ogun State.
“Markets are the heartbeat of commerce in any society. Modern markets like this not only provide a conducive environment for trade but also improve the business experience for everyone. By investing in infrastructure like this, we are securing livelihoods, enhancing food supply, and ensuring a stable economic future for our people,” she added.
Mrs. Abiodun further described the naming of the complex after her as a gesture she deeply appreciates, calling it “a significant honour” for herself and her family.
In his remarks, Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo said the shopping complex represents a major milestone in the council’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and economic development.
“This project will positively transform the socio-economic landscape of Abeokuta North. It will stimulate trade, create employment opportunities, and foster stronger community ties,” he stated.
The shopping complex is part of a series of local government-led interventions aimed at expanding economic activities and promoting inclusive growth across Ogun State.
