April 07, (THEWILL) – The Baale of Kirikiri town, Chief Babalola Shabi, popularly called Baale No-Nonsense, has accused Nigerian Correctional Service officials of aiding an alleged bribery that gave social media personality and controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, special treatment during his stay in prison.
During a town hall meeting hosted by the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, as part of the celebrations for National Police Week, Chief Shabi asserted that Bobrisky smuggled eight Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards into the correctional facility and transferred a total of thirty-five million naira through local Point of Sale (POS) operators, with the purpose of bribing the prison officials for preferential treatment.
He said that instead of serving his entire sentence in prison, Bobrisky was housed in a private apartment outside the facility, which was set up by the correctional facility’s staff.
“Before the truth came out, everyone believed he was in Kirikiri serving his time. But the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison walls, thanks to a criminal collaboration involving some officials”, he said.
Chief Shabi added that the officials who assisted Bobrisky have been suspended, and the house where Bobrisky was reportedly kept had been found and demolished.
“Personally called in the EFCC after I summoned the POS operators to my palace. From there, they were able to trace the transactions and decode the money trail. It was shocking how N35 million could be sourced from around here so quickly. Clearly, this was not a one-man job. The officials who aided him have been suspended.
The DSS first invited me for questioning, and I told them everything I knew. The EFCC also reached out, and I gave them my full cooperation. As a community leader, I cannot allow this type of impunity to go unchecked.”
This latest controversy surfaced many months after Bobrisky was released from Kirikiri prison in August 2024. Bobrisky was charged with and sentenced to six months in prison for abusing Naira notes in 2024, and after pleading guilty, he was believed to have spent six months in prison.
