May 01, (THEWILL) — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and abuse, following the arrest of 132 suspects and the seizure of over 220 kilograms of assorted narcotics during coordinated raids across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and adjoining communities.
THEWILL reports that the operation, described as one of the agency’s most extensive anti-drug offensives in recent months, led to the dismantling of several notorious drug joints and distribution hubs believed to be fuelling criminal activities and substance abuse within the nation’s capital.
A statement signed on Friday by the NDLEA Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the special enforcement exercise, jointly carried out by operatives of the Agency’s Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command, lasted between April 11 and April 25, 2026.
According to the NDLEA, the raids followed weeks of intensive intelligence gathering, surveillance, and strategic monitoring of identified black spots across Abuja and neighbouring settlements.
Areas raided during the operation included Torabora Hills, Area 3, Gwarinpa, AYA, Durumi, Banex, Dei-Dei, Kubwa, Apo, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Wuse Zone 4, Garki Area 10, Jabi, and the Suleja axis, where several notorious drug dens were reportedly destroyed.
Recovered from the various locations were 214.79 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, 5.524 kilograms of Diazepam, 2.352 kilograms of Exol, 1.119 kilograms of Tramadol, 145.8 grams of Mogadon, 93.52 grams of cocaine, 84.3 grams of Rohypnol, 10.9 grams of Methamphetamine, 3.17 grams of Ecstasy, as well as six bottles of Codeine syrup.
The agency disclosed that some of the operations, particularly around the Durumi Area 1 and Suleja market corridors, encountered stiff resistance from suspected traffickers and criminal syndicates.
However, NDLEA operatives were said to have successfully subdued the resistance through superior tactical deployment and professionalism, with no casualty recorded during the exercise.
Briefing the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), on the outcome of the operation, the Director of Operations and General Investigation, DCGN Ahmed Sule Ningi, commended the officers and men involved for their resilience, coordination, and professionalism.
Ningi stressed the need for sustained pressure on drug trafficking networks in order to consolidate the gains already achieved in the ongoing war against illicit substances.
“The success of this operation further demonstrates the resolve and operational capacity of the agency to confront drug trafficking syndicates and protect communities from the dangers associated with substance abuse”, he said.
Reacting to the outcome of the raids, Marwa praised the commitment and dedication of the officers from DOGI, the FCT Strategic Command, and other participating formations for their efforts in sanitising Abuja and its environs. He subsequently directed that the operational template adopted in the FCT be replicated across other high-risk urban centres nationwide as part of broader efforts to suppress both the demand and supply of illicit drugs in Nigeria.
The NDLEA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining aggressive enforcement actions alongside preventive advocacy programmes aimed at reducing drug abuse among youths and vulnerable populations.
