November 14, (THEWILL) — The Adamawa State Government has announced an immediate ban on the posting of posters, stickers, and banners on public structures across the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mohammed Sadiq, announced the directive on Friday in Yola.
Sadiq explained that affixing promotional and campaign materials on government buildings, bridges, and other public facilities had become widespread.
He described the practice as a blatant violation of environmental sanitation laws and a threat to public order.
According to the commissioner, the ministry observed a sharp increase in the placement of such materials by individuals, political groups, religious organizations, and commercial entities.
He stressed that the practice not only disfigures public infrastructure but also undermines ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness across the state.
“This trend of defacing public property cannot continue. It is detrimental to our collective goal of sustaining a clean and orderly environment for all residents of Adamawa,” Sadiq said.
The commissioner warned that anyone found violating the ban would face prosecution under existing environmental laws.
He added that any illegally placed posters, banners, or stickers would be removed at the offender’s expense.
Sadiq emphasised the importance of compliance, urging all groups and individuals to desist immediately from the practice.
He noted that adherence to the ban is crucial for the success of the ministry’s ongoing sanitation campaigns and environmental conservation initiatives.
Residents were also called upon to support the ministry’s efforts by reporting violations and promoting awareness about the importance of maintaining public structures in a clean and orderly condition.
The Adamawa Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reiterated its commitment to promoting a sustainable environment throughout the state, assuring that stricter monitoring and enforcement measures would be implemented to ensure compliance with the new directive.
