March 09, (THEWILL) — Adamawa State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect, following renewed violent clashes that reportedly claimed lives in the affected communities.
The directive, announced on Monday in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the curfew was imposed to address the escalating conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities, which has continued to disrupt peace and stability in the area.
According to the statement, this marks the fourth curfew in less than six months in Lamurde as the administration seeks to curb the ongoing communal violence.
Governor Fintiri described the disturbances as unacceptable and instructed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly.
“Anyone or group found violating the directive will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law”, he ordered.
The curfew will remain in place until further notice, with security operatives tasked with maintaining law and order. Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies and provide information that could help restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.
“Government will not condone acts of violence and will take necessary measures to restore peace and order”, Governor Fintiri said, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Lamurde.
The governor also appealed to residents to remain calm and exercise restraint, emphasising that the cooperation of the local community is critical to bringing lasting peace to the area.
