March 09, (THEWILL) — A major security alert has been declared in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State after suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group attacked a police station in Illo town, setting the facility ablaze and abducting a police officer.
The gunmen reportedly carried out the attack late on Sunday night, opening fire before setting the station on fire. Sources said the assailants also made away with seven cartons of ammunition during the raid.
Confirming the incident, SP Bashar Usman, Police Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Command, stated that investigations had begun to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack. He added that security operatives were actively gathering intelligence and taking measures to restore calm in the area.
SP Usman appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in tracking down the attackers.
Illo town, situated near the Nigeria–Niger border, has faced growing security challenges in recent months, with authorities stepping up operations to curb cross-border criminal activities.
