SAN FRANCISCO, January 25, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Police has arrested some persons in connection with an attack on four villages in Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria where over 30 persons were reportedly killed.
The Adamawa State Police Commissioner, Mr Gazzali Mohammed, broke the news to journalists, insisting that 15 people were killed and not 30 people as reported.
“Fifteen (15) people were killed including a DPO while among those injure were some military personnel,” he said.
A security source, who preferred anonymity, told THEWILL that the attack affected Demsare, Koh, Ndikajam, Tabongo and Koh villages adding that the Principal of Government Day Secondary School Koh, Mr John Buba was also killed.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa state government has condemned the attack and called for calm.
The Commissioner of Information, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, said the government has summoned an emergency security meeting to discuss the issue.
In a similar development, the Leadership of the Northern Youths Leaders Forum, NYLF, on Monday, described as dastardly the massacre “of over 60 innocent peasant farmers in four communities of Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.”
The NYLF also condemned the razing down of the villages by gunmen, and displacing of residents, including women and youths who in the process of escape ran to the river bank but were killed by the gunmen.
The National Leader of the Forum, Comrade Elliot Afiyo, who made the reaction in an interview with journalists, lamented that while the Federal Government was making frantic efforts in putting an end to Boko Haram insurgency, some have now gone to the extent of recruiting machinery to kill innocent residents
He claimed that the attack was a coordinated attack where the Fulani herdsmen of the area in collaboration with some politicians hired machineries to fight the farmers of the areas.
Afiyo lamented that despite the Federal Government efforts to fight against insurgency in the North East, some people are aiding crisis in some parts of the region
