July 02, (THEWILL) — The African Democratic Congress-led coalition has announced a change in venue for the official unveiling of its political platform, following a last-minute cancellation by its original host, Wells Carlton Hotel, on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by the ADC Deputy National Secretary, Nkem Ukandu, the coalition said the event will now hold at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday.
“Members of the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders are expected to attend. Please note that attendance is self-sponsored,” the statement read.
The cancellation by Wells Carlton Hotel came just hours before the scheduled event, with the hotel citing an unspecified “internal compliance matter.”
“We are fully aware that the event is less than 24 hours away, and we deeply apologise for the timing and inconvenience this may cause,” the hotel stated in a message shared by media personality and politician, Dele Momodu.
The development has sparked outrage among opposition figures, with some accusing the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of using political pressure to frustrate the event.
The ADC is reportedly being positioned as the platform for a new opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Prominent political leaders such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, and former governors Rauf Aregbesola and Nasir El-Rufai are said to be among those backing the movement.
