July 02, (THEWILL) — Nigeria will host the fourth edition of the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS), scheduled to hold from July 15 to 17, 2025, in Abuja.
Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, disclosed this at a pre-summit press conference held on Wednesday in Abuja.
Represented by the Director General of the Mining Cadastral Office, Engr. Obadiah Nkom, Alake said the summit is expected to attract over 1,000 stakeholders across the continent and will serve as a platform to showcase innovative technology solutions and secure concrete investment commitments.
Themed “Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development,” AFNIS 2025 aims to move beyond policy discussions toward the execution of actionable, bankable projects.
“AFNIS has become Africa’s foremost platform for cross-sector dialogue, investment matchmaking, and building long-term strategic partnerships across the natural resources and energy value chain,” Alake said.
He added, “This edition is designed to reflect the sector’s growth and includes a special retreat for ministers and chief executive officers to foster vision-sharing and trust among key stakeholders.”
He added that the summit would focus on value creation through local industrialisation and resource beneficiation.
“We’re looking at how to transform Africa’s vast raw materials into processed products like batteries, solar components, fertilisers, and metals.
“We’ll also explore the energy transition by leveraging renewables and natural gas to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy solutions for African communities,” he stated.
Other focal points will include integrating mining with agriculture and energy with petrochemicals to stimulate sustainable economic growth across the continent.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Faruk Yabo—represented by the Director of Mines Environmental Compliance, Dr. Vivian Okono—emphasised the strategic importance of AFNIS to Africa’s development.
He stated; “This summit is a critical step toward unlocking Africa’s potential by fostering sustainable investment, promoting industrial innovation, and enhancing regional economic integration”
“As Nigeria prepares to host this landmark event in its capital city, the focus remains on harnessing local content to drive development outcomes.”
The 2025 summit is also expected to provide Nigeria with a platform to showcase milestones recorded under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the solid minerals and energy sectors
