SAN FRANCISCO, July 08, (THEWILL) – Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been officially declared winner of the Osun West Senatorial by-election.
The chief returning officer Professor Olaide Lawal of Oye Ekiti University said Adeleke PDP polled 97,480 votes, while Mudashiru Hussain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 66,116 votes.
The seat became vacant following the death on 23 April of Adeleke’s brother, Isiaka, a member of the APC and the election took place in 911 Polling Units in 110 Registration Areas and 1006 Voting Points in 10 local government areas with eleven (11) political parties participating in the by-election.
Adeleke picked the ticket to contest for the vacant seat under the PDP after two other contestants for the ticket, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and Mr. Olayiwola Falabi stepped down for him.
He had tried to get the ticket under the APC but was dis-satisfied when the party refused to give him the ticket automatically.
The official result showed the PDP candidate winning by large margin in the two local councils in his Ede home town, while only losing in Ejigbo LG, the base of his opponent, Hussain.
Adeleke also won in the remaining seven local councils including Isokan, Ayedaade and Egbemode.

Ayedire LGA: APC -5,360 PDP- 5,789 Winner – PDP.
Irewole LGA: APC -8,953 PDP– 9,094 Winner – PDP.
Isokan LGA: APC -5,227 PDP- 6,539 Winner – PDP.
Egbedore LGA: APC -4,768 PDP- 7,142 Winner – PDP.
Ede North LGA: APC -2,784 PDP- 7,142 Winner – PDP.
Ola-Oluwa LGA: APC – 5,316 PDP- 5618 Winner – PDP.
Ejigbo LGA: APC – 12,229 PDP – 9,723 Winner PDP.
