April 02, (THEWILL) – Air Algérie will commence direct flight operations between Algiers and Abuja on April 6, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria-Algeria diplomatic and economic relations.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
Tuggar assured that the Nigerian government would provide necessary support to sustain the new service, emphasizing that the initiative stemmed from the implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between both nations.
“The new route, operated by Algeria’s national carrier, Air Algérie, with a Boeing 737 aircraft, will enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and facilitate trade and investment between the two countries,” the minister stated.
He further noted that the development reflects both nations’ commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in aviation, commerce, and people-to-people exchanges.
Tuggar commended the role of the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers in facilitating the new route, adding that the Charge d’Affaires of the embassy, the leadership of the Nigerian community in Algeria, and representatives of the Algerian government would be aboard the inaugural flight.
“The affordable fare structure and Algeria’s proximity to Europe will provide Nigerians with a convenient gateway to Europe, boosting Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit,” the statement added.
The flight service, expected to operate twice a week, is anticipated to bolster trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
