April 02, (THEWILL) – Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested at least ten suspects during a raid on an illegal internet fraud training facility, popularly known as a ‘Yahoo Academy,’ in the Iju area of the state.
State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the principal operators of the facility recruited their trainees from Anambra State and engaged them in internet fraud and related crimes.
Hundeyin disclosed that four alleged cyber fraud specialists, identified as Chibuike Ihejika (23), Stanley Ihejika (22), Obiora Oyediba (26), and Emmanuel Oyedibe (25), were arrested alongside six trainees during the operation.
“All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further discreet investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the sponsors who financed the trainees’ enrolment in the facility, as well as the owner of the premises where these illegal activities were taking place,” Hundeyin stated.
He further warned the owner of the facility to surrender to authorities immediately, adding, “The owner of the property is advised in his own interest to turn himself in at SCID Panti from wherever he is hiding.”
The police said the raid is part of a broader crackdown on cybercrime syndicates operating in the state, as authorities intensify efforts to curb internet-related fraud.
