June 10 (THEWILL) — Airtel Nigeria has unveiled a new digital tool, the Airtel Web Data Calculator, designed to help subscribers better understand and estimate their internet consumption based on everyday online activities.
The initiative, announced in a statement signed by the company’s Director of Corporate Communications and CSR, Femi Adeniran, comes amid growing efforts by telecom operators and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to improve transparency around data usage and address persistent complaints about rapid data depletion.
Available on Airtel’s website, the calculator enables customers to estimate data consumption from activities such as video streaming, video and voice calls, social media engagement and web browsing.
The tool is intended to provide greater visibility into usage patterns and help users select data plans that better suit their needs.
Speaking on the launch, Airtel Nigeria’s Customer Experience Director, Oladokun Oye, said the platform reflects the company’s commitment to helping customers make informed decisions about their digital usage.
“As Nigerians become increasingly dependent on digital services for work, education, entertainment and communication, it is important that customers have clear visibility into how their data is consumed,” Oye said.
He noted that concerns over data depletion remain a recurring issue in the telecommunications sector, making transparency and customer education increasingly important.
Airtel Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Dinesh Balsingh, described the calculator as a practical innovation that gives subscribers greater control over their digital experience, adding that the company would continue investing in network upgrades and customer-focused digital solutions.
The launch follows broader industry efforts to address data consumption concerns. Last week, MTN Nigeria introduced “Data on Trial,” an initiative that opened its billing and network operations to public scrutiny.
Telecom operators have also begun providing subscribers with daily data usage reports in line with NCC directives aimed at improving billing transparency and consumer awareness.
Nigeria recorded more than 13 million terabytes of internet consumption in 2025, underlining the growing importance of mobile broadband services across the economy.
