November 26, (THEWILL) – Rasheedat Ajibade found the opener as Atlético de Madrid Femenino continued their recent good form with a 2-0 win away at Granada in the Primera Division Femenina on Sunday. Going into the game, manager Manolo Cano knew his side needed three points to keep up with the League’s top sides.
The first half saw Atletico control possession but they were left frustrated as efforts from Sheila Garcia and Ajibade struck the woodwork. Granada defended resolutely and went into the break with the score deadlocked, despite having no attempts on target.
The deadlock was finally broken four minutes into the second half when Ajibade unleashed an unstoppable shot from range that flew into the top corner. It was no less than Atletico deserved after their first-half pressure.
Granada were forced to open up in search of an equaliser but this played into Atletico’s hands. On 59 minutes, Eva Navarro’s pinpoint cross was turned home by Sheila Garcia to make it 2-0. That goal killed off any hopes of a Granada comeback.
The game petered out from there with both managers making substitutions. Atletico were able to see out a professional performance to claim three valuable points and tighten their grip on 4th place in the table. They now sit just two points behind joint 2nd place teams Real Madrid and Levante with momentum on their side.
