BEVERLY HILLS, August 7 (THEWILL) – The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Moses Ekpo, has denied resigning from office contrary 48 hours after reports of his resignation hit was widely reported in the media following the defection of his political leader and mentor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The deputy governor’s spokesman, Ekikere Umoh, in a statement Monday quoting Ekpo, who is in New York on official assignment said: “I have not resigned and I have no reason whatsoever to resign or jump ship from a government that is both responsive and performing optimally… I cannot, and will not jump ship.”
The state had also earlier dismissed reports of Ekpo’s resignation.
THEWILL recalls that Akpabio, the Senate Minority Leader until his resignation today, singlehandedly installed current Governor, Emmanuel Udom and his deputy in 2015. Regarded as one of the most popular and vocal political personalities in Akwa Ibom and the South West, Akpabio’s quarrel with Udom and his exit from the PDP could seriously weaken the party in the state.
