May 07, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will on Thursday, May 7, 2026, commission the newly completed 11-kilometre Owot Uta–Nung Oku Road linking communities in Nsit Ibom and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas, along with the Lutheran Model School at Afaha Offiong.
The projects form part of the state government’s rural infrastructure and education development drive under the ARISE Agenda.
The road project traverses Owot Uta, Nung Oku, Ekwere, Afahaudo Eyop and Edeobom communities, and is expected to improve connectivity, ease transportation challenges and stimulate economic activities within the benefiting areas.
Residents, farmers, traders and motorists along the corridor had for years grappled with poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season when movement became difficult.
With the completion of the road, transportation of goods and movement of people are expected to improve significantly, while commercial and agricultural activities within the axis are projected to receive a boost.
The state government said the project would also strengthen socio-economic ties between Nsit Ibom and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Areas.
Also billed for commissioning is the Lutheran Model School at Afaha Offiong, described as a modern educational facility to improve access to quality learning infrastructure in the area.
The school features modern classroom structures and other facilities designed to provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The project is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen human capital development through investments in educational infrastructure across the state.
Some indigenes, who spoke with THEWILL, expressed satisfaction, saying that since assuming office, Governor Eno has continued to prioritise rural development through investments in roads, schools, healthcare facilities and empowerment programmes across different parts of the state.
