SAN FRANCISCO, October 22, (THEWILL) – The paramount ruler of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, Chief Ubong Asam was abducted in the wee hours of Tuesday from his residence in Akpautong by a gang of about 15 gunmen and transported to an unknown destination.
Witnesses told THEWILL that the gunmen stormed the residence in a 14-Toyota bus firing shots rapidly into space before overpowering the security aide at the residence.
THEWILL has however gathered from security sources that the gunmen have made contact with the family and demanded a share of the N2.6 billion naira paid to the community by oil giant ExxonMobil in 2012 as compensation for oil spill in the area.
