
July 25, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled an armed robbery attempt in Ikot Ator village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, neutralising one of the suspects during a gun duel.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Timfon John, who said the operation followed a distress call received around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2025.
According to the statement, a concerned citizen had alerted the police to an ongoing attack by suspected armed robbers at Annex B Estate in Ikot Ekpene.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the three armed hoodlums opened fire on the operatives.
“The officers tactically engaged the suspects in a gun battle, leading to the neutralisation of one of the robbers, while the other two escaped with bullet wounds,” the statement read.
Items recovered at the scene include a locally fabricated cut-to-size shotgun, one expanded and one live cartridge, four assorted Android phones, an industrial cutter, a cross bag containing N5,700, a wristwatch, and an Echolac travel box filled with clothes. A Qlink motorcycle with registration number UML 906 QX was also recovered.
The statement added that a lodge occupant sustained a bullet wound during the crossfire and was promptly taken to a nearby medical facility where he is currently receiving treatment.
The command assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains committed to the safety and security of all residents, and all hands are on deck to bring the culprits to justice,” it added.
