February 26, (THEWILL) – Ali Odefa has been re-elected as the Southeast National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party following the nullification of his purported expulsion by an Ebonyi State High Court sitting in Obiozara.
The court, presided over by Justice Gladson Ugbala, ruled that Odefa was qualified and eligible to seek re-election, paving the way for his victory at the zonal congress held on Wednesday at Okpara Square, Enugu State.
Declaring the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Hon. Funkeke Mye Solomon, announced that all zonal officers emerged unopposed, describing the congress as free, fair, and credible.
Other zonal officers elected include Ugwu James Okechukwu as Secretary, Uchebo Regina as Treasurer, Ugwu Cornelius as Organising Secretary, Igwe Augustine as Publicity Secretary, Kenneth Okoro as Financial Secretary, Dominic Nwankwo as Legal Adviser, Ezeanya Augustine as Auditor, Arodiogbu Ifeanyinwa as Women Leader, and Nwanoruo Godswill as Youth Leader.
In his acceptance speech, Odefa expressed gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for his unwavering support for the party, pledging to use the fresh mandate to address past shortcomings.
“He is the only governor we have in the zone, and everything you see here today, including expenses, has been covered by him. We want to appreciate you, sir, despite your numerous responsibilities in Enugu State,” he said.
Odefa also commended the delegates for their confidence in him, assuring them that he and his team would not disappoint.
“With this fresh four-year mandate, we will correct past mistakes and reposition the party. I appeal to our brothers and sisters who may feel aggrieved by the process or outcome to let go of any grievances. Let us unite to build a party we can all be proud of,” he added.
He urged party stakeholders to rally behind Governor Mbah’s leadership, noting that members of the National Assembly from the zone had assured him of their commitment to ensuring the PDP remains well-funded and operational.
