May 12, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia has identified internal wranglings among political actors as one of the key factors fuelling insecurity in Benue State, even as he called for unity among the people to overcome the crisis.
Speaking on Saturday at the Township Stadium in Vandeikya Local Government Area while presenting his mid-term report, Alia urged sons and daughters of the state to put aside political differences and join hands to tackle the lingering security challenges.
The governor lamented the increasing attacks by armed herders on communities in the state, describing it as a serious threat that demands collective and decisive action.
“Let Benue sons and daughters forget their political differences and unite in the fight against the monstrosity that has befallen the state. Your collective strength can be a saving grace from the external attacks on your communities,” he said.
“Everyone must be vigilant and serve as the eyes of our security agencies—not only at the borders but within our communities. We also have internal issues: conflicts between clans, between districts. We must put a stop to them,” the governor appealed.
Alia thanked the Federal Government for deploying additional security personnel to the state and urged residents to cooperate with them in restoring peace.
Highlighting his achievements in the last two years, the governor said his administration had made significant strides in education, healthcare, ICT, agriculture, infrastructure, security, transportation, and human capital development. He assured citizens that his third year in office would usher in a new phase of transformational development.
He also appreciated the people of Vandeikya for turning out in large numbers to interact with him and assess his performance, acknowledging that while there have been distractions from some quarters, his focus on delivering good governance remains unwavering.
Chairman of the occasion and member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency, Hon. Prince Solomon Wombo, thanked the Kunav people for their support for Governor Alia and urged them to sustain it.
Also speaking, Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Council, Hon. Dennis Guda; Chairman of the Kunav United Development Association (KUDA), Deacon Emmanuel Tor Yajir; and CPC Chairman, Barr. Moses Atagher, all expressed satisfaction with the governor’s performance.
Others in attendance included members of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Tiev and Kyan constituencies, Hon. Dr. Matthew Damkor and Hon. Terna Shimawua; the Ter Kunav, Chief Nyiyongo Achiaku; APC State Chairman, Hon. Chief Benjamin Omale; and former Vandeikya LGA Chairman, Hon. (Mrs.) Kukase Tyoer Garba.
Highlights of the event included mass defections from other political parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and musical performances.
