March 28, (THEWILL) – Canadian tennis player, Bianca Andreescu’s comeback at the Miami Open, was sadly cut short on Monday, after she suffered a serious injury during her fourth-round match against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
Andreescu, who won the US Open in 2019, but missed all of 2020 due to injury, was in obvious pain as she collapsed to the court during the match. Medical personnel rushed to her aid on the court, and after receiving treatment, Andreescu was lifted into a wheelchair and left the court in tears.
The 22-year-old had been looking strong in Miami, with wins over Emma Raducanu, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin. Andreescu’s injury is yet another setback for the Canadian star, who has struggled with injuries throughout her career.
Nevertheless, she has shown great resilience in the face of adversity, and fans will be hoping for a swift recovery and a return to the top of the sport.
