Update:
Three more girls have been abducted by Boko Haram gunmen in Wala, a village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
This followed the abduction of eight girls earlier on Monday morning in Warabe thus bringing to 11 the number of girls recently abducted by the terrorists.
The fresh abductions came about three weeks after the April 14 abduction of over 200 school girls at the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, an incident that is still generating global outrage.
Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, had on Monday claimed responsibility of the Chibok abduction, describing the girls as war booty.
Residents of Gwoza said the latest abductions took place in Wala
Monday night at about 9.45pm. Gwoza is a border town with Cameroon and lies about 135 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, the state capital. The town has been under the consistent attack of Boko Haram.
A resident of the area told THEWILL on Tuesday that “The abduction of our children last (Monday) night did not cause any damages to our lives and property in Warabe and the other village Wala, five kilometres from us.
“What happened that night was the forceful taking away of our daughters between the ages of 12 and 15 to the Sambisa Forest by these gunmen that descended from hills tops of Gava, Hwa’a and Chikedeh with several AK 47 rifles hanged over their shoulders.
“They evacuated some of our grains, and carried away livestock into awaiting pick-up van, while the abducted girls were hurled into an 18-seater bus, before they fled into the forest by 11pm last night.”
He said the gunmen warned them not to informsecurity operatives, threatening to deal with them if they did .
Giving a detail of the operation, another local resident, Ishaku Bremcha said: “There was a twin- ambush by gunmen last night along Guduf-Gava route of Gwoza Hills. The gunmen came through the settlements of Hwa’a, Chikedeh, and Guduf-Wala hills down to Wala kasa, and proceeded to Dure village, west of Gwoza town with the abducted 11 teenagers into Sambisa Forests last night.
“The abductors did not inflict injury or kill any of us in Warabe and Wala, but took away 11 of our young daughters into the forests, after warning us not report the kidnappings.”
There was no official confirmation of the attacks when filing this report as the telephone lines of the state commissioner of police, Tanko Lawal, were inaccessible.
However, a senior police officer, craving anonymity, said some armed hoodlums attacked two villages in Gwoza council area, and abducted about a dozen teenagers, stressing that no lives and property were destroyed in the incident.
