Military and emergency personnel have cordoned off the market, while the youth vigilante group has started stopping and searching vehicles for bombs. The stop and search exercise is however aversely affecting the flow of vehicular traffic in the city.

Six killed, 36 Wounded

Sources at the Borno Specialists Hospital in Maiduguri where the victims of the bomb attack were taken said six persons were brought in dead while thirty-six others had injuries.

A soldier who spoke to journalists anonymously gave an insight into the bombing attack at the market.

The personnel said a lone female suicide bomber refused to submit herself for search at the gate of the market and was shoved aside by a member of the civilian JTF (Youth vigilante). “She must have detonated the bomb in the process as it immediately went off tearing her into pieces and cutting off an arm of the civilian JTF,” the ranking soldier said.
