BEVERLY HILLS, February 09, (THEWILL) – At least, two people allegedly lost their lives on Tuesday, in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, as security operatives comprising soldiers and police, allegedly shot at members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as they were about to commence a planned protest to further press for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, their leader, detained by the Federal Government.
Reports indicate that many others were also injured in the incident, which happened at National High School, along Port Harcourt Road, Aba.
Eyewitness account had it that the security operatives in an attempt to prevent IPOB members from embarking on street protest, shot at them at point blank.
All efforts to get police confirmation failed, as Ezekiel Onyeke, the police public relations officer, could not be reached.
THEWILL recalls also that on January 18, 2016, Chidozie Okafor, a 20-year-old apprentice, a native of Omuohu, in Eziagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, lost his life to a similar incident, at St. Michael’s Road, Aba.
Chidozie, according to eyewitness account, was hit by a soldier’s bullet, while returning from lunch.
The IPOB threatened to continue its protest in the South-East and South-South states of the federation if Kanu, its leader and director of Radio Biafra, was not released from the cell of Department of State Services (DSS).
IPOB alleged that apart from denying Kanu access to his doctors, the Federal Government through the DSS, had devised another way of complicating his already deteriorating health condition by making him sleep on bare floor, thereby making him to contract pneumonia, which may possibly kill him.
