September 24, (THEWILL) – Victor Osimhen’s brace helped his Serie A side, Napoli, maintain its 100% start to the 2021/2022 season as they beat Sampdori 4-0 win at the Stadio Comunuale Luigi Ferraris on Thursday evening to go top of the current standings again.
It is five wins out of five matches for the Luciano Spalletti side so far and the manager could not be any happier seeing the progress they have made with a beautiful preseason continue this remarkably into his first season as manager at Napoli, with 14 goals scored and only two conceded.
Again, Osimhen was at the heart of the ticking attack line and he once more opened the scoring after just nine minutes, though it could have been earlier if his 6th minute strike from outside the box was not saved at the bottom right corner by Emil Audero in the Sampdoria goal.
Lorenzo Insigne, who provided the assist for Osimhen’s goal repeated the gesture, this time for Fabian eight minutes after the half hour mark to double the advantage for the visitors. Fabian controlled the pass from Insigne and released a left-footer from outside the area that sailed into the net beyond Audero.
Napoli continued from where they left off before the interval with the 22-year-old Nigerian striker on point for his second of the game five minutes after the restart. He benefited from a Hirving Lozano supply this time and cracked a shot at goal from the centre of the Sampdoria goal area to make it 3-0.
Nine minutes after, Lozano did exactly what Insigne did in the first half by providing a second assist. Piotr Zielinski gratefully accepted the ball from Lozano and made it four for the visitors with a fizzing half-volley inside the area just before the hour for an easy win over Sampdoria.
While Napoli took the pleasure of returning to the summit with the victory with two points ahead of defending champions Inter Milan, the hosts, Sampdoria, who could not breach the Spalletti defense, ended the game in 13th place, just below the under-firing Juventus, who are in 12th.
