January 04, (THEWILL) — Anthony Joshua has broken his silence on social media following a car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two members of his training team.
The British boxer shared images on Instagram on Sunday showing him with his mother and three other women, one holding a photograph of Sina Ghami.
He added the caption ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ to the post.
The former two-time unified world heavyweight champion was travelling in a Lexus SUV when it struck a stationary lorry on the Lagos-Ibadan highway in southwest Nigeria last Monday.
Strength and conditioning coach Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele were killed in the collision. Joshua suffered minor injuries and received hospital treatment before his discharge on Wednesday.
Following his release from medical care, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist returned to the United Kingdom in time for the funerals of both men.
Nigerian authorities have since charged the vehicle’s driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, with dangerous driving causing death. The case is scheduled for court on 20 January.
Joshua had been visiting Nigeria, where he has family connections, after defeating Jake Paul in Miami on 19 December.
The trip was intended to be a holiday following his recent ring success. The 36-year-old’s team members were accompanying him during the visit when the fatal incident occurred.
The accident has sent shockwaves through the boxing community, with the loss of two experienced professionals who worked closely with the former champion.
Nigerian police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash on one of the country’s busiest road routes.
