SAN FRANCISCO, January 08, 2014, (THEWILL) – The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has embarked on the harmonisation of the different interest groups within the party in the state.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Interim Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Chief Andy Nweye, said the harmonisation followed series of meetings between the State Working Committee with the party’s National Assembly members of the party, Harmonisation Committee, Local Government chairmen and major stakeholders of the party across the state.
It said the Harmonisation Committee Chairman, Hon. Asita Honourable Asita, of the House of Representatives, supervised the harmonisation process Wednesday after a marathon meeting held at the party’s state secretariat at Old GRA, Port Harcourt, between it and the leadership and members of the legacy parties (defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN, All Nigeria’s Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and other political groups that fused into the APC.
According to the statement, highpoint of the meeting was when Chief Clifford Njah (Andoni) moved a motion to henceforth declare all former legacy parties and groups dead and defunct. The motion was supported by Hon. Hope Nyeche (Etche); subsequently, the meeting adopted and passed the motion accordingly.
Meetings of the state Steering Committee and National Assembly members had been held earlier in the week where a three-man Harmonisation Committee was raised. The Committee comprising Hon. Asita Honourable Asita (Chairman), Hon. Tamuno Williams and Chief Mike Nwielaghi, was said to have swung into action immediately.
According to Nweye, “The harmonisation process is work-in-progress; all possible fallouts from the process will continually be dealt with by the committee as they arise.”
The party said the harmonisation process will reach its crescendo on Thursday, January 9, when the Harmonisation Committee will meet with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Area chairmen. The meeting is expected to provide the platform to carry out final harmonisation of the PDP Local Government chapters and structures and fusing all into the APC after which all other groups within the PDP and other parties shall be effectively declared out of existence.
